Because good learning
has no price
What is NON-EXAMINED ASSESSMENT (NEA)?
Non-Examined Assessment (NEA) is just that. It is part of your qualification’s structure which doesn’t have an end point exam. This could include Science Practicals, Geography Field Trips, Environmental Science Fieldwork, Historical Enquiries, an English or Foreign Language Speaking Test, English Coursework, Astronomy Observations, Art Practicals or more! We can cater for the vast majority of NEA subjects and specialise in those listed. We can work with your tutors or teaching groups to help offer even more!
What subjects can you apply for?
Tutors & Exams are uniquely placed to offer a wide range of Science Practical Endorsement (CPAC) sessions in multiple locations throughout the year. We can provide the practicals at either our dedicated lab in Birmingham or during school holidays in London. Your exams can then be taken at any of our exam centres. As we are a JCQ approved centre, you can take your practicals and sit exams at a centre more convenient to you. No need for consortium agreements, just let your exam centre know we’re doing the practicals. We can provide GCSE practicals. However, due to the costs, we recommend taking International GCSE Sciences with either Pearson (Edexcel), or Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE).
Your dedicated Private Candidate Assessment Centre has developed a programme for candidates studying independently to take up the required four-day Fieldwork trip. You will work with an experienced Geography tutor on either a Rivers or Coasts Fieldtrip. You will have travel from a single location and includes the marking element of the Investigation. Risk assessments and equipment will also be provided to ensure you are safe and have all the right tools to ensure you succeed in your assessments. GCSE Geography Fieldtrips can be arranged. However, due to the costs, we recommend taking International GCSE Geography with either Pearson (Edexcel), or Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE).
You can work with a large number of Distance Learning Providers (DLPs’) to ensure that your A Level Historical Enquiry is to the right level, authenticated and marked. Our list of DLP’s is available here. However, if you are not working with an approved DLP partner, you will need to work with our Authentication team (which will incur additional costs). See our list of approved Tutors that will work with you and ensure all of the paperwork you need is ready for submission to the Awarding Bodies.
Your dedicated Private Candidate Assessment Centre has developed a programme for candidates studying independently to take up the required four-day Fieldwork trip. You will work with an experienced Environmental Science tutor throughout Fieldtrip. You will have travel from a single location and includes the marking element of the Investigation. Risk assessments and equipment will also be provided to ensure you are safe and have all the right tools to ensure you succeed in your assessments. iGCSE Environmental Management (no fieldwork required) is available through Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE).
Music has traditionally been a difficult subject for learners to access as Private Candidates. However, you can access music from GCSE to A Level through us and our learning partners. We have teamed up with Distance Learning Providers and Tutors in order to deliver you the qualifications you really want. Take a look at our partner page to find out about Distance Learning and Music or get in touch to see how we can assess your qualification if you are studying independently.
The Speaking, Listening and Communication Component of English GCSE has long been thought of as a hindrance to Private Candidates. You can now access English GCSE with ease. We will arrange a Speaking, Listening and Communication session with you, during the assessment windows, in order to ensure you get the endorsement on your certificate. English GCSE is now a linear qualification and does not require any coursework. You can still opt to take an International GCSE with Pearson (Edexcel) or Cambridge Assessment International Education if you want to progress without the SLC component. Always check with any prospective Further or Higher Education establishments or Employers as to their requirements.
English A Level
Since the A Level reforms around 2015, English Language, Literature and Language & Literature now have an NEA element that needs to be authenticated and marked by an approved Exam Centre. You can rest assured that we have a solution for you. Tutors & exams provided the solution to many DLP’s that now offer the A Level English qualifications. We work closely with a number of the DLP’s and have our own authentication partner (additional fees will apply) if you wish to study independently.
You will be required to carry out observations as part of your Astronomy assessments that need to be confirmed by the “Head of Centre”. We have devised our own validation process that has been approved by Pearson (Edexcel) in order to make your journey straight forward. Our partner Groundmark Learning will work with you to verify your work. Alternatively, you can work with one of our DLP partners who will validate your observations for us. Currently the NEC and The Online Astronomy Society Academy are able to provide distance learning for this subject.
Art & Design
We have teamed up with the Art & Design Room to deliver Art qualifications to Home Educators and Private candidates. Whether it’s textiles or art you’re looking for, they can help with your coursework and teaching throughout the process. They will even ensure that you get your entries in on time. (Tutor fees and exams fees apply). Even if you are confident with Art, the team can help authenticate and prepare your coursework for submission.
Tutors & Exams have specialised in Language assessments right from the outset. We understand that you may struggle to find a centre that can cater for the Speaking component of language assessments.
To date, we have assessed more than 25 languages. Arabic, Bengali, Chinese Mandarin, Chinese Cantonese, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Sinhala, Dutch, Punjabi, Portuguese, Swahili, Greek, Latin, Tamil, Hindi, Gujarati, Japanese, Persian, Russian, Malay, Sanskrit, Turkish and Urdu. So we think we’ve got something for everyone! If you speak another language, let’s talk your language!
Language assessments are carried out by qualified and experienced tutors who also offer practice sessions.
Please be aware that language assessments are carried out sometime in April and May and will need to be conducted in your local exam centre. Unfortunately, you cannot choose the day as it will depend on when the tutor is available.
The Language assessment will cover speaking on some of the following depending on the board and level. You will need to be familiar with the themes and topics of your chosen syllabus.
- Role play cards
- Photo card stimulus
- Independent Research Project
- General discussion
We also handle a wide variety of traditional and non-traditional subjects including Maths, Psychology, Sociology, ICT, Computer Science, Film Studies, Accounting, Economics, Politics, Law, Business and a whole lot more! If you can’t see it listed, just let us know and we’ll work with you, or talk to you about the subject.
