Congrats to our January EPQ Candidates!

Congrats to our January EPQ Candidates!

We’re absolutely thrilled to announce the fantastic results achieved by our January 2025 Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) candidates! You’ve all worked incredibly hard, and your dedication has truly paid off. Well done! 🎉

Have you ever wondered about taking on a challenge that lets you explore your passions and develop valuable skills? If you’re curious about what the EPQ is and how GroundMark Learning can help you on your journey, keep reading!

So, what is an EPQ?

The Level 3 Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is a fantastic opportunity for students like you who are taking Level 3 qualifications (like A Levels, BTECs, or apprenticeships). Think of it as your chance to dive deep into a topic you’re passionate about.

Unlike regular exams, there’s no big test at the end. You’ll be working on your own project, assessed by a Project Supervisor and moderated by both the Project Co-ordinator and the Exam Board. An EPQ is an excellent taster of university-style learning as it is effectively an independent research project which can, but does not have to, relate to a Level 3 course that is being studied.

To gain the qualification, students will need to:

  • Complete a Project Activity Log: A diary that logs the progress they have made throughout the year.
  • Carry out Research: A collection of sources that relate to their topic.
  • Complete a 5,000 – 6,000 word written report.
  • Deliver a short presentation about their project to a small non-specialist audience.

What are the benefits of completing an EPQ?

  • Show off your passion: If you’re applying to university, it’s a fantastic way to show them you’re really serious about a certain subject.
  • Boost your university application: Universities like to see that you can handle independent work. Successfully completing the EPQ is worth up to 28 UCAS points, which can help you significantly with getting into your chosen university. It is also valued at 50% of a full A Level in the UCAS tariff!
  • Get super organised: You’ll learn how to plan a big project over several months, which is a really useful skill for university and beyond. You’ll become a pro at time management, juggling your EPQ with your other studies.
  • Become an independent learner: Your EPQ supervisor is there to guide you, but you’ll be the one driving the project. This means you’ll learn to work on your own, solve problems, and meet deadlines. This is exactly what university is all about!
