Welcome to our blog where we will be introducing our wonderful team and shedding some light on the world of Access Arrangements. We will also be sharing our experience working in the team, as well as an update on the coming weeks.

Meet the Access Arrangements team:

Say hello to Catherine, Colin, Natalie, and Sarah, our dedicated members of the Access Arrangements team at Tutors & Exams. With years of experience in their respective fields, they bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the team.

Catherine

My background is Customer Service Management and Learning and Development. I joined Tutors & Exams in 2021 within the AA team as a SEN advisor. I became Manager in January 2023 to recruit and support the team as our company continues to grow and the need for access arrangements increases across our 10 centres.

Colin

I worked in a Secondary school for over 15 years supporting SEND students in lessons and examinations, and I also taught Maths to SEND students running up to examinations. I am a qualified Access Arrangements Assessor and joined Tutors & Exams as an Exams Manager at Taunton before becoming a Centre Manager. I have now moved over to a successful AA team to support candidates with their access arrangements.

Natalie

I have worked in the education and Early Years sector for 20+ years. I came across this role whilst supporting the centres with calls and general enquires after returning to employment after Covid and have never looked back!

Sarah

I’ve been working in education for over 20 years in a variety of roles.  I was a Teaching Assistant when my children were young and then became a Laboratory Technician at a secondary school.  I then became the school’s Exams Manager for 9 years and so have many years of working in an education setting.  I am now working in the Access Arrangements Team at Tutors & Exams as a Special Needs Advisor, and I couldn’t be happier in my role.

Sarah

My youngest son has autism, so I understand and empathise with anybody needing to navigate the whole access arrangements system.  It can be a minefield of information and very daunting for anyone new to the process.  My children are all grown up now but I still remember how much of an anxious time it can be for parents, as well as the students themselves when it comes to taking their exams. My experience, knowledge and understanding of the exams and access arrangements systems and processes help me to help you achieve the best outcomes for your children.

What are Access Arrangements?

Access Arrangements are reasonable adjustments made to candidates during exams or assessments to ensure they have an equal opportunity to demonstrate their abilities. These arrangements are intended for candidates with specific needs that may impact their performance, such as those with special educational needs, disabilities or temporary illnesses/injuries.

How do we support candidates with these requirements?

Supporting candidates with access arrangements involves understanding their individual needs, following the guidelines provided by the exam board, and providing appropriate accommodations to ensure a fair and inclusive assessment process. This may involve providing extra time, a reader or scribe, or a separate room.

Every candidate is unique, and their needs will be different. Our goal is to ensure that every candidate feels as comfortable as possible and at ease during their exam process. Regular communication with the candidate and their parents or caregivers are also crucial to ensure their needs are met effectively.

Our experience working in the Access Arrangements team:

Working together, we value the opportunity to make a positive impact on candidates’ lives by providing them with the necessary support to excel in their exams. We understand that each candidate has unique requirements, and we are committed to tailoring our services to meet their individual needs.

The supportive and inclusive work environment at Tutors & Exams makes it a joy to come to work every day. We have a strong sense of camaraderie and teamwork, which enables us to overcome challenges and achieve our goals together.

Staff Testimonials:

“I have discovered a deep sense of satisfaction and fulfilment in my role, each day brings new challenges allowing me to make a positive impact on the lives of the individuals who come through our doors. Each application presents a unique set of requirements and criteria, requiring me to stay updated on industry regulations.

When we receive feedback from our customers that our accommodations have contributed to them reaching their goals, it brings the team great joy. It is truly wonderful to see the positive impact our teams efforts have on the lives and careers of our customers”.

– Natalie, Assistant Manager

“I love being part of the Access Arrangements Team as I like making a difference to candidates who need that extra support to make sure they’re on a level playing field to their peers when sitting their exams.  I believe that every individual should have the same opportunities and that special educational or medical needs should not be a barrier when it comes to taking exams”.

– Sarah, SEN Advisor

The busy AA Elves are not winding down for Christmas just yet!

We’re coming into our busiest months of the year in preparation for the Summer 2024 exams. We have hundreds of candidates across our 10 exam centres to support and ensure we have all the evidence and assessments completed in readiness to make the entries to the examination board.

Please bear with us over the coming weeks. If you have sent all the relevant evidence in, we will be in touch to advise as soon as your entry has been made and approval received. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
